Your new favorite coffee table book — a curated collection of Charleston’s best interiors, curated by Candice Becklund.
Here in Charleston, I’m surrounded by some of the most talented interior designers, craftsmen, and artists. Honestly, the whole East Coast feels like a hub for good design—you can see it in people’s style, their homes, even how they live day-to-day. It’s not just the picture-perfect kind of design I’m talking about. It’s the laid-back, relaxed beach goers too—the people who somehow manage to make effortless look intentional. It’s hard to explain unless you’ve lived it. Charleston has this magic you can feel—it’s creative, coastal, and timeless all at once.
When I dreamed up the idea of creating my own coffee table book, I knew exactly who I wanted to include: some of the best. The designers and artists featured in these pages are, in my opinion, some of the most talented and creative people in town. They’re the ones who inspire me daily—the ones who have truly dedicated their lives to the craft of creating beautiful spaces.
As you flip through these pages, you’ll notice how every designer has their own voice, their own story, their own message woven into each room. One page might make you feel the calm of a perfect coastal living room. The next might pull you back to your first rock concert. And then, maybe you’ll land on a kitchen with warm wood tones so rich it feels like stepping into a piece of art. Because that’s exactly what these spaces are—art. They’re the result of passion, collaboration, and incredible craftsmanship between designers, builders, vendors, and clients all across Charleston.
My hope is that this book inspires you to see your own hometown with the same wonder. Next time you’re out walking your dog, pushing a stroller, or grabbing dinner with friends, look around. Notice the bronze light fixture, the pink front door, the hand-carved chair perfectly stained to match the original hardwood floors. Take it all in. Because that’s the beauty of Charleston—it’s everywhere if you slow down enough to see it.

Candice Becklund is a product and interior design photographer based in Charleston, South Carolina. She wrote The Design Ledger while pregnant with her fifth baby—during a season of big ideas, bold dreams, and a deep desire to create something lasting.
What began as a personal project—self-produced and hand-delivered around Charleston—was simply her way of highlighting designers she admired and reconnecting with the creative community. The response quickly exceeded her expectations, and the small summer idea grew into a published coffee table book celebrating the city’s most beautiful interiors.
Candice has been behind a camera since she was 21, photographing hundreds of weddings, events, and product campaigns before discovering her love for interior design photography. Drawn to layered textures, architectural lines, and the emotion of a well-designed space, she now focuses exclusively on capturing interiors with depth and intention.
The Design Ledger is her love letter to great design—and to the creative community she’s proud to call home.
